On 4 November 2016 the new Minister of Justice, Mr Ghazi Jeribi, met with a delegation of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) in Tunis. This meeting provided an opportunity for the CEPEJ delegation, to make an assessment of the projects implemented under the joint programme of the European Union/Council of Europe entitled “Towards a strengthened democratic governance in the Southern Mediterranean”, with the purpose to improve the way the justice operates in Tunisia, including all members of the justice system (judges, court clerks, lawyers, etc.). The Minister of Justice reassured the delegation of their support to the work of the CEPEJ.
This meeting was held in the wake of a training organized in Monastir, which was addressed mainly to magistrates and court clerks of the Tunisian pilot courts of the CEPEJ, as well as to lawyers, and focused on the following topics: the judicial scoreboards, courts’ management tools; the preparation of civil law cases and the management of civil law hearings; and alternative dispute resolution.
