Mediation Centres, which have been initially established in 6 pilot jurisdictions (Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Kayseri, Mersin) have been using the UYAP (National Judicial Network System) mediation screens, since 30 May 2016. UYAP is a network that connects courts, mediators and mediation centres under a unified mediation portal, and it hosts “Mediation Information Forms” developed in cooperation with the CEPEJ Experts. Litigants are provided with these mediation forms through its interface, directly by judges in the pilot courts. In addition to the introduction of an alternative dispute resolution scheme, this system also aims at enabling the Turkish Ministry of Justice to collect data on the use of UYAP and on mediated cases, before this pilot system can be applied nation-wide.
