Back 3rd Workshop on Family Mediation

3rd Workshop on Family Mediation

The 3rd family mediation workshop was organised in Ankara on 15-16 May 2017 to focus specifically on the legislative framework of family mediation in Turkey. A CEPEJ expert and a family mediator from Germany have met key stakeholders in Turkish family mediation to share perspectives to support the Ministry of Justice on what could become a new specific legislation, in line with the CEPEJ Guidelines for a better implementation of the Recommendation Rec (98)1 on family mediation and the EU Mediation Directive dated 2008. National participants included family judges in pilot jurisdictions, mediators, academicians, NGOs, and representatives from the Court of Cassation, Regional Court of Appeal, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Family and Social Policies. Participants explored various topics, notably training of family mediators and the appropriate specific qualifications expected from them. By the end of the workshop, several recommendations have been adopted on the organisation and the legal framework of the family mediation scheme in Turkey. These recommendations are expected to be carried forward by decision and policy makers for the development and dissemination of mediation.
