The CCJE Working Group met in Paris on 2-4 April 2025 to discuss the draft structure of the CCJE Opinion No. 28 (2025) on the contribution of judicial well-being to the rule of law.
The members of the Working Group discussed and finalised the draft structure of the Opinion No. 28 (2025) prepared on the basis of previous Opinions of the CCJE, as well as Recommendations of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and relevant instruments of the Venice Commission, European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) and other institutions within and outside of the Council of Europe.
Within the framework of the meeting, a joint session and exchange of views were also organised with the CEPEJ Working Group on work-life balance in the judiciary.
Judicial well-being was discussed in-depth in the context of the effectiveness of justice, quality of judicial decision making, public confidence in the judiciary and other indispensable elements of the administration of justice and rule of law. The Opinion No. 28 (2025) will acknowledge that well-being of judges has become a growing concern globally in recent years. It will make an attempt to define and conceptualise it, determine what are the unique contextual challenges that may negatively impact judicial well-being, how it can be safeguarded and improved and other essential aspects.
