The CCJE was delighted to learn that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) elected, on 28 January 2025, Judge Canòlic Mingorance (Andorra), member of the CCJE and its Bureau, as Judge to the European Court of Human Rights.
The CCJE always relies on the case law of the European Court of Human Rights in its Opinion and other documents, consistently quoting relevant judgments. This concerns in particular cases where the Court found violations of Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights with a bearing on judicial status, independence and impartiality. The Court also regularly uses and quotes in its judgments the general standards developed by the CCJE.
Judge Mingorance is warmly congratulated on her important new judicial role. Her past membership in the CCJE and its Bureau and her in-depth knowledge of its standards will no doubt contribute to even stronger ties and co-operation between the CCJE and the Court.
