Alleged threats to the Emerald Network sites Skhidnyi Svydovets, Marmaroski ta Chyvchyno-Hryniavski Hory and Carpathian biosphere Reserve

In 2019 the EPL - Environmental People Law submitted a complaint on the construction of a large ski resort affecting Emerald Network sites Skhidnyi Svydovets, Marmaroski ta Chyvchyno-Hryniavski Hory, and the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve.

According to the complainant, the construction of hotels, felling of forests for the creation of ski slopes, lifts, auxiliary structures, and infrastructure would lead to the physical destruction of a significant number of habitats for species that are protected by the Bern Convention, including the Brown Bear (Ursus arctos), Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra) and Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx). This complaint remains on stand-by.
