Working Group Meeting on Piloting the New Specialised Conciliation Model

A working group meeting on Piloting New Models of Conciliation was held in Ankara on 21 March 2023.

The meeting became a step in developing and testing the new model: specialised conciliation in Türkiye in cases which involve juvenile parties and/or violence. The focus of the meeting was on reviewing a desk study on the model, which included a timetable and the assessment check-list in line with examples of European best practice, CEPEJ tools and relevant international standards.

Discussions were held with the participation of the personnel of Directorate General for Criminal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, local consultants, public prosecutors, conciliation bureau staff, lawyers and academicians contributed to the discussions for effective implementation of the specialised conciliation model.

The new model will start to be implemented in pilot courthouses following the establishment of appropriate operational mechanism by the Ministry of Justice to adapt the specialised conciliation model and provides required permissions for piloting practices within the existing legislative framework for the implementation plans of the pilot courthouses.

The meeting was organised within the framework of the European Union-Council of Europe Joint Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Turkey”.

 

The Joint Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution in Turkey” is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey – Directorate General for Criminals Affairs and Directorate General for Legal Affairs are the end beneficiaries of the Project. The Central Finance and Contracts Unit is the contracting authority.
