WEBINAR: “REASONING OF JUDGMENTS IN CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS IN THE SCOPE OF THE RIGHT TO FAIR TRIAL”

On 24 June 2020 the second online exchange of the project was conducted on reasoning of judgments in criminal proceedings in the scope of the right to fair trial. The webinar has targeted around 100 participants: representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Directorate General for Criminal Affairs, Human Rights Department and the Directorate General of the EU Affairs, trainers and other representatives from the Justice Academy of Turkey and the judges from the first and second instance courts.  This webinar aimed to raise awareness of Turkish judges on the importance of legal reasoning in judgments to prevent human rights violations. Participants exchanged views on standards of the reasoned judgements according to the case-law of Turkish Court of Cassation, Constitutional Court and the standards of the European Court of Human Rights. It is planned to organise a follow up face-to-face workshop before the end of 2020.

This webinar was organized under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey”
