Turkish Authorities Discuss Improvement of Alimony and Compensation Determination Framework

During the roundtable meetings organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project on "Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members”, the national authorities were engaged in active discussion with a focus on improving the framework of alimony and compensation determination by Family Courts.

Important issues such as the determination of alimony in line with the standards set by the judiciary, in accordance with predetermined parameters, and the requirements for establishing uniform practice in similar cases were among key topics addressed in Mardin. The meeting also discussed alimony collection practices through enforcement, the difficulties faced by family members, and the international legal cooperation dimension of alimony cases.

As a follow-up, an Evaluation Report will be prepared, summarising the main points and offering measures for possible improvement of the alimony and compensation determination process.

The “Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members” Project is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe and Justice Academy of Türkiye. The Project aims to ensure rule of law and fundamental rights in Türkiye as fully in line with international and European standards and to improve the effectiveness of family courts in protecting the rights of women, children, and other family members.
