The Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara has launched face-to-face training of trainers under the project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey.” Two five-day-training of trainers modules on criminal justice and interactive methodology were organised in Ankara starting 15 March and 26 March respectively for two groups of 20 trainers each.

The training was opened by Mr Muhittin Özdemir, Head of Justice Academy of Turkey and Cristian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara. Reiterating that the first goal of the Academy is to strengthen its training capacity, Mr Özdemir emphasized: “We aim at further strengthening the training capacity of the Justice Academy of Turkey with this training of trainers. This training is of great importance for our future trainings as it covers fundamental principles of adult training and incorporates group activities on the contents of drafted modules.”

The aim of this activity is to increase the skills of full-time and part-time trainers of the Justice Academy on adult training methodology for selected modules on peace judgeship and reasoned judgments. The modules are developed under the project in collaboration with the Justice Academy of Turkey. The training consisted of interactive presentation of modules by Council of Europe experts, followed by try out sessions and moot court exercise, to enable participants to apply the knowledge acquired.
