Thirty-six personnel from Türkiye’s Ministry of Family and Social Services enhanced their skills to protect and support migrant and refugee children during a three-day training held in Ankara from 27 to 29 November 2024. The training, “Child Protection in the Context of Migration”, was organised under the joint European Union/Council of Europe action “Strengthening the human rights protection in the context of migration in Türkiye”. It focused on empowering participants with tools and knowledge to address the specific needs of children in migration.
Key topics included:
- Domestic and international legal frameworks on child protection in migration;
- Determining the best interests of the child;
- Guardianship practices;
- Legal regulations for interviewing children;
- Protection of child victims of trafficking;
- Family reunification processes;
- Functioning of the child protection system.
Participants received two key publications developed with expert support from the action: : Legislation Guide on the Protection of Migrant Children in Türkiye and Evaluation Report on the Guardianship System for Children in the Context of Migration in Türkiye. These resources were developed and distributed to support the relevant professionals in effectively implementing child protection measures in migration.
The action “Strengthening the human rights protection in the context of migration in Türkiye” is part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
