Three webinars on combating trafficking in human beings held in Turkey

The European Union and the Council of Europe, in partnership with the Turkish Directorate General of Migration Management (DGMM), organised three webinars on the action against trafficking in human beings in Turkey for the Gendarmerie General Command, the Coast Guard as well as the Directorate General of Security.

Three webinars were organised on the 9 and 10 December 2020 in the framework of the joint European Union/Council of Europe action “Strengthening the human rights protection of migrants and victims of human trafficking in Turkey”.

The webinars brought together 70 participants from the Gendarmerie General Command, 47 participants from the Coast Guard General Command and 49 participants from the Directorate General of Security.

Aiming to introduce anti-trafficking conceptual framework ahead of practice-oriented trainings to be organised in 2021, the action team provided introductory information about the Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, the work of the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) and the planned action activities. The DGMM representatives informed the participants about current challenges and priorities regarding the action against trafficking in human beings in Turkey.

The action “Strengthening the human rights protection of migrants and victims of human trafficking in Turkey” is implemented in the framework of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
