Third Meeting on Enhancing Cooperation and Awareness on Cybercrime Among Relevant National Institutions

On 10-11 February 2022, a third Coordination Meeting on Cybercrime was held in İzmir in hybrid format with the participation of the representatives of relevant Turkish institutions (Ministry of Justice including the Deputy Head of General Directorate of Criminal Affairs, Prosecutors, Judges, Turkish Gendarmerie, Turkish National Police, Association of Digital Forensics and IT Law, The Banks Association of Turkey, İzmir Bar Association, defence lawyers representing Turkish Penal Law Association and, national and international consultants of the project).

This activity aimed to improve co-operation among relevant national institutions, through exchange of information, experience and mutual challenges faced in all phases of judicial proceedings with regards to cybercrime related offences.

During the 2-day event, participants exchanged on identification of problems; good comparative practices; coordination between both public and private institutions, as well as coordination and cooperation among main actors of the phases of investigation and prosecution.

Similar coordination meetings will be conducted in five different provinces where Cybercrime Bureaus are located.

A comprehensive report on coordination on cybercrime with concrete recommendations will be prepared as a follow up of these meetings. It will support the institutionalisation of this dialogue through a platform supported by the Ministry of Justice.

 

This meeting was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey”.
