The Second Steering Committee Meeting (SCM) of the EU-CoE Joint Project on Strengthening Democratic Culture in Basic Education was held in Ankara, on 2 April 2019.The participants include representatives of the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey, Education Reform Initiative (ERG), Parliamentary Commission for National Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, EU Delegation to Turkey, Central Finance and Contracts Unit (CFCU), Directorate for EU Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Council of Europe. The participants evaluated the achievements and progress made since the last SCM which was held on 18 October 2018.
The aim of the meeting was to provide the opportunity to discuss the early implementation phase of the Project, focusing on working group meetings under Competences for Democratic Culture, Material Development, Capacity Building and Democratic School Culture components, produced visibility materials, proposed amendments on activities and road map for the forthcoming activities.
The opening speeches were delivered by Mr Michael Ingledow, Head of Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara and Ms Gülderen Özdemir, Head of Research, Development and Projects Department, Ministry of National Education. Afterwards, Ms Katia Dolgova-Dreyer, Head of Bilateral and Regional Co-operation Unit, Education Department, Council of Europe, made a presentation on the current trends and new developments at the Education Programme of the Council of Europe.
The following presentations highlighted the implemented activities, the activities planned for the next implementation period, and minor changes on the design of some activities. The next SCM is proposed to be held on 16 October 2019.
