A training seminar on "Practical Training for Mediators on the Elimination of Joint Ownership" was organised in Ankara on 19-20 October 2023 in co-operation with the Ministry of Justice Directorate General for Legal Affairs and the Council of Europe with the participation of experienced mediators, scholars, and experts in the field.
The primary goal of this training was to enhance the skills and expertise of mediators in addressing cases involving "joint ownership," where disputes or conflicts arise among multiple individuals or entities who co-own a specific property, asset, or interest.
As the introduction of mediation as a cause of action in joint ownership cases has led to an increase in the number of parties involved, this practical training aimed to equip mediators with the necessary skills, particularly in multi-party joint property disputes, while also creating a valuable platform for sharing experiences.
In this event attended by a total of 300 mediators from all over Türkiye, exchange of information was made on significant subjects such as the elimination of joint ownership, elimination of joint ownership in shared properties, co-ownership and shared ownership, formation of parties, enforceability statement, and report preparation practices were carried out interactively. Participants assessed that thanks to this activity, they increased their knowledge on the subject and that they would benefit greatly in practice.
The Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Türkiye” is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Türkiye Directorate General for Criminals Affairs and Directorate General for Legal Affairs are the end beneficiaries of the project. The Central Finance and Contracts Unit is the contracting authority of the project.
