Online Roundtable Meeting on Procedural Safeguards, Right to A Fair Trial

On 15 June 2022, an online round table meeting on procedural safeguards in the context of fairness of the proceedings was conducted. It brought together approximately 145 Turkish judges and prosecutors, together with lawyers from the European Court of Human Rights, Rapporteur from Turkish Constitutional Court, as well as international and national experts.

Dissemination of the standards of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as standards of high Turkish courts was the primarily topic of discussion during the meeting. Speakers and participants exchanged on specific challenges related to the right to legal assistance, both from a legislative and a practical point of view. There was fruitful discussion on the administration of evidence and providing adequate reasons, which is one of the areas of violation found by the European Court of Human Rights against Turkey.

This activity was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations”.
