Needs Analysis of the Mediation Bureaux and Training Needs Assessment of their Staff in the Field of Mediation and Arbitration in Turkey have Started

The first preparatory meeting of the activity Needs Analysis of the Mediation Bureaux and Training Needs Assessment of their Staff in the Field of Mediation and Arbitration in Turkey” under the European Union-Council of Europe Joint Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Turkey” was held online on 27 October 2021 with the participation of the Directorate General for Legal Affairs (DGLA) of the Ministry of Justice, the Council of Europe project team, and local and international consultants.

In the meeting, the team of consultants, who will support the activity within the scope of the mediation and arbitration component of the project, were introduced. Information was also provided on the scope of the activity, the work plan and division of labour. The meeting provided the opportunity for the representatives of the Ministry of Justice and consultants to come together and share their expectations regarding the works to be carried out within the scope of the relevant activity.

The needs analysis has a two-pronged objective, on the one hand it aims at assessing the nature and extent of the needs of the mediation bureaux, and on the other hand, identifying the training needs of the court staff working in the mediation bureaux of the selected pilot courthouses. To this end, desk-based research, on-site assessment visits and a workshop will be held, and training materials will be prepared.

The Joint Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Turkey” is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkey Directorate General for Criminals Affairs and Directorate General for Legal Affairs are the end beneficiaries of the Project. The Central Finance and Contracts Unit is the contracting authority.
