Learning About Rights, Building Confidence: Women Gather in Ankara for Training on Legal Literacy

On a quiet afternoon in Ankara, the meeting room of the Council of Europe Programme Office filled with voices, questions, and stories. Twenty-two women gathered for a training on legal literacy, organised as part of the International Women’s Day activities, with a shared purpose: to better understand their rights.

For many participants, the afternoon was more than a training session. It was a moment of realisation: understanding one’s rights can open the door to justice, confidence, and change. Conversations quickly moved beyond theory to the realities many women face such as violence, divorce, alimony, and where to seek help when rights are violated.

Through these types of initiatives, the Council of Europe continues to support efforts in Türkiye to strengthen women’s awareness of their rights and promote equal access to justice for all.
