The European Union - Council of Europe Joint Project on Strengthening the Capacity of Bar Associations and Lawyers on European Human Rights Standards organised an online kick-off meeting on 27 August 2021 to announce the launching of the tutored HELP Course on Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence.
The kick-off meeting brought together approximately 260 course participants, who were informed about the Council of Europe HELP Programme (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals), practical advice on the violence against women and domestic violence HELP Course.
The participants were welcomed by Mr Musa Toprak (CoE, Project Manager). The meeting continued with a briefing by Mr Taha Büyüktavşan (MoJ Department of Human Rights Deputy Head of Department) on the HELP Programme and navigation through the HELP Platform. Dr F. Gökçen Taner (CoE National consultant - HELP Tutor) provided an overview on content of the course, while Ms Ekin Akmanoğlu (HELP Tutor) and Mr Musa Toprak further contributed with their comprehensive presentation on practical information regarding the on violence against women and domestic violence.
A total of 264 lawyers attended the kick-off meeting of the HELP course, which will continue nearly for 2 months under the guidance of two HELP tutors.
The HELP Course on Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence covers the key concepts, the international and European legal framework and case law governing the prevention and protection of women and girls from violence in an interactive way, focusing in particular on the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).
The Joint Project on “Strengthening the Capacity of Bar Associations and Lawyers on European Human Rights Standards (SCoBAL)” is implemented by the Council of Europe, and co-funded by the European Union, the Republic of Turkey and the Council of Europe. The Union of Turkish Bar Associations is the end beneficiary of the Project. The Central Finance and Contracting Unit is the contracting authority.
