In-service training for Turkish judges and prosecutors continue

 

The in-service training programme under the SIAC project (Supporting the Individual Application to the Constitutional Court in Turkey) continues with the fifth training seminar, which took place in Antalya on 4-6 December 2017. The programme aims to increase the knowledge of 3,000 first instance judges and prosecutors about the individual application, and to strengthen their capacity to identify violations of fundamental rights and freedoms.

96 judges and prosecutors from various cities of Turkey, 11 facilitator judges and prosecutors who successfully completed the training of trainers and representatives of the Justice Academy participated in the training. Academics who prepared the training modules also attended the sessions as observers.

Participants were divided into four groups according to their areas of expertise (civil/criminal judges and prosecutors) to learn more about the key aspects of human rights’ protection, including:

  • The right to life and the prohibition of torture,
  • The right to liberty and security,
  • The right to a fair trial,
  • The right to property,
  • The right to respect for private life and family life,
  • Freedom of religion and conscience / expression / assembly and organization.  

Training certificates were distributed to the participants at the end of the programme.
