A “Training on Monitoring Places of Detention” took place on 18-19 February 2025 in Ankara, aiming to strengthen the expertise of staff from the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (HREIT).
48 staff members of HREIT actively participated in the training, benefiting from the experience of two consultants. The intensive two-day program provided in-depth insights into key areas such as monitoring standards, the different phases of detention monitoring, interview techniques, evidence collection, data handling, and documentation processes. Participants also engaged with practical case studies and real-life scenarios to deepen their understanding.
One of the key focuses of the training was the protection of vulnerable persons, particularly women and girls under immigration detention. Special emphasis was placed on equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to address specific challenges to ensure an effective monitoring work in the context of migration.
The action “Strengthening the human rights protection in the context of migration in Türkiye” is part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe Programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”
