HFII: Action on ‘Supporting the Implementation and Reporting on the Action Plan on the Human Rights in Turkey’ has been extended until the end of 2021

The duration of the project “Supporting the Implementation and Reporting on the Action Plan on the Human Rights in Turkey” has been extended until the end of 2021. The main goal of the project is to contribute to the protection of human rights in Turkey by increasing the institutional capacity of the Turkish authorities, primarily the Ministry of Justice, to support the implementation and reporting on the “Action Plan on Human Rights”. The project focuses on three thematic areas – right to liberty and security, fairness of proceedings, and freedom of expression – and aims at supporting the Action plan’s implementation by providing analyses, awareness raising, and training activities.

In response to media inquiries, the Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in Ankara has stated today: “The new Human Rights Action Plan, prepared by the Turkish authorities and announced on 2 March 2021, will be a key document in shaping our future cooperation. The Action Plan is not an output of the Council of Europe project, as this text has been prepared by the Turkish authorities, who have full ownership of the document. In the extended period of the project, the Council of Europe will continue to deliver expertise and support for the implementation of the Action Plan.”
