Call on ending violence against women and make justice more accessible for women

Violence against women is one of the world’s most prevalent human rights violations, taking place every day, in every corner of the globe. It is a violation of human rights and a form of discrimination.

Various studies present that physical and/ or sexual violence against women, perpetrated by their partners or intimate partners, remains unreported. The reasons for not reporting domestic violence range from women not perceiving violence as a serious problem, not knowing where to apply, fear for retaliation or not trusting that outcome of their application to public institutions would bring appropriate and sufficient remedy or sanctioning for perpetrators.

This shows that justice is not accessible in equal terms for women, particularly for women victims of violence. Through the joint action on “Fostering women’s access to justice in Turkey”, the European Union and the Council of Europe are supporting women’s access to justice and empowering them to realise their rights.
