‘Symposium on the 10th Anniversary of Mediation in Türkiye'

A symposium on the 10th Anniversary of Mediation in Türkiye took place in Ankara in the scope of the Mediators' Day on November 14, 2023. The event was organised by the Council of Europe in collaboration with the Directorate General for Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice of Türkiye. It gathered more than 750 mediators, academics, and experts from all over the country, and served as a platform for dialogue to identify the needs and trends regarding alternative dispute resolution mechanisms applied in Türkiye. Furthermore, it functioned as a forum to raise awareness and promote collaboration among the general public, judicial authorities and practitioners in the field.

The Symposium was marked by the presence of high-level officials, including the Minister of Justice, the President of the Court of Cassation, the President of the Council of State, the President of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, the Members of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors and some members of the Parliament.

The Symposium featured numerous presentations on the development and new areas of mediation, mediation as a pre-requisite to file a lawsuit, and the application of mediation in commercial, labour, consumer, and family law disputes.

At the end of the event, the certificates were presented by the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Justice to all mediators participating in the event.

The Project on “Promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Turkey” is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Türkiye, Directorate General for Criminals Affairs and Directorate General for Legal Affairs, are the final beneficiaries of the project. The Central Finance and Contracts Unit is the contracting authority of the project.
