Mr Sergey SOKOLOVSKIY

Sergey Sokolovskiy is a leading research
anthropologist at the Institute of Ethnology
and Anthropology, Russian Academy of
Sciences and the Editor-in-Chief of the
Russian academic journal “Etnograficheskoe
obozrenie” (Ethnographic Review).
His research experience includes fieldwork
carried out among the Telengit and the
Mennonites in Altay (1980-1986) and among
the Russian Old Settlers, Veps and Shors in
the Kemerovo region, Western Siberia
(1988-1993).
He has taken part as
an expert in the evaluation of Russian
legislation in the fields of nationality and
language policy, hate crime and the rights
of indigenous peoples and minorities.
He has participated in several
international projects and programmes
implemented in Russia by Council of Europe
bodies.
He has published several
books and many articles on minority and
indigenous peoples’ rights.
