ECRI round table to discuss the fight against racism and intolerance in Ukraine

Organised by the Council of Europe’s European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI).

Description: ECRI members, Ukrainian government officials and representatives of judicial institutions, researchers, academics and representatives of NGOs will meet at a round table to discuss the challenges of the fight against racism and intolerance in Ukraine.

The round table will review the recommendations contained in ECRI’s third report on Ukraine, and discuss the problem of responding to racially motivated violence; the fight for equality – implementing anti-discrimination laws; and racism, xenophobia, antisemitism and intolerance in public discourse and in the public sphere.

Chair of ECRI Eva Smith Asmussen will open the round table.

ECRI is an independent human rights body of the Council of Europe which monitors problems of racism and intolerance, prepares reports and issues recommendations to member states.

Practical information: The event will take place at the Great Conference Hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Volodymyrska Street 55; Kyiv), from 9.00 am to 5.15 pm on Thursday 7 May, and is open to the press.
