The
2nd European Conference of Judges was held in
Cracow during the Polish Chairmanship of the Committee
of Ministers of the Council of Europe. It was organised
by the Council of Europe at the instigation of the
Consultative Council of European Judges (CCJE), in
collaboration with the Polish National Council of
Justice and with the assistance of the Polish Ministry
of Justice.
The Conference was intended to help strengthen the
principles of rule of law and enhance protection of
the human rights by identifying approaches which States can
apply in order to strike a balance in the relationship
between justice and the media.
The Conference was open to judges and all
professional persons concerned by the topic, namely media
representatives, parliamentarians, representatives of
international organisation, and experts in
