The 2010 programme of activities of the North-South Centre
The 2010 programme of activities was adopted by the NSC Executive Council at its 42nd meeting, on 12 November 2009. In 2010, the two main action lines remain “Global Education / Youth“ and “Intercultural Dialogue“. In addition to these programmes, permanent processes such as the Lisbon Forum and the North-South Prize will be carried on. 2010 will also mark the 20th anniversary of the North-South Centre.
At the level of education, the NSC will continue to support the quality and evaluation of GE and the promotion of GE practices, in particular in the 12 new EU member States. At the level of youth, the NSC will also continue to give priority to provide training and capacity building for young people and youth organisations at both global and inter-regional level, with a special emphasis on the Euro-African area . The “Intercultural Dialogue” programme will pursue its contribution to dialogue and to the development of knowledge, mutual understanding between European, Southern Mediterranean and African societies. The 2010 Lisbon Forum theme will be linked to the principle of universality of human rights and its implementation at both international and regional level. The 2009 North-South Prize will be awarded to Mikhail Gorbatchev (Russia) and Rula Dashti (Kuwait), in Lisbon, in spring 2010. Finally, several activities are planned to take place during the first half of 2010 in Lisbon, Strasbourg and other cities of Europe and beyond, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the NSC.
