Building skills for a shared future through the Arabic Global Education Guidelines

Today, World Youth Skills Day highlights the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Under this year's theme, "Skills for a Shared Future", the United Nations calls for innovative approaches that empower young people to lead with empathy, bridge cultural divides, build resilience and contribute to more inclusive and sustainable societies.

Developing these competences begins with supporting those who guide young people. Teachers, youth workers, trainers and policymakers are key in creating learning environments that foster critical thinking, democratic participation, intercultural dialogue and global responsibility.

To support this work, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe has published the Arabic edition of the Global Education Guidelines, making one of its flagship educational resources accessible to Arabic-speaking education professionals.

The Global Education Guidelines combine key concepts with practical methodologies for both formal and non-formal education. They explain the foundations of Global Education, provide participatory teaching methods and concrete educational activities, and show how the Council of Europe Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture can be integrated into educational practice. The publication also includes guidance on media and information literacy, helping educators support young people in navigating digital environments critically, responsibly and ethically.

By making this resource available in Arabic, the North-South Centre aims to strengthen the capacity of educators and decision-makers across the region to integrate Global Education into their work and equip young people with the competences needed to shape a more peaceful, democratic and sustainable future.
