Programme of events dedicated to “Global education week” in Lithuania

North-South Centre of the Council of Europe every year, since 1999 it is inviting European Union countries to take part in Global Education Week, by which they try to promote some activities in that country. 46 European countries are arranging GEW in November. Its aim is to concentrate the society on judgment of different problems about young people. This year the topic of GEW is “Citizen between citizen ”.
For many years we hear about tolerance problem, but people are still indifferent to incitement to take measures. You want to change something, but sometimes you feel, that your behaviour isn’t very well. Lithuanian School Students Union and Lithuanian Students Union are organizing Global Education Week, which takes place on 19 – 25 November. Special attention would be given to young people, because this year is the culture of the children year in Europe.
This year Global Education Week‘s topic is „Citizen between citizen”. All topics covered during this week will be pointed to discrimination, we will try to show that being together and helping to other that is maybe different from you, breaks all old-fashioned stereotypes as well as solves many issues.
To taking into the topic „Citizen between citizen”, all the things, which are organized are related with human. That’s why we are inviting to take part and organize a lot of things about topic „Citizen between citizen” in school or universities. Of course we are inviting to visit these events:

Global Education Week is started on 16^th - 18^th November, on that weekend is going to be an action “The weekend of culture of children and youth”, which is devoted to mention the year of culture of children and youth. Which were published on 2007 by the Lithuanian Republic parliament resolution.
We are inviting all the schools to organize a lot of concerts or actions on these days.

Di luce in luce – „The window to the light “. On 9^th November to 1^st December is action amazing light show “The window to the light”, on that moment natural phenomenon is restoration in artificial space. More information about this you can found www.diluceinluce.eu

Description of events organized in Lithuania

1 day Day of Goodness. New trend – to show respect to each other, lend a hand to someone who needs it. Goodness action will start in Gedimino avenue on 16:00. Students will decorate trees with white pigeons. Also all the citizens will be invited to join this action. Every shop or office in the centre of Vilnius will be presented with white pigeons as well. Moreover, there will be a book placed in the Cathedral Square, where every citizen will be able to write down, what being a human means to him. Later, 7 pigeons will be left to the freedom symbolizing 7 goodness words: respect, help, love, passion, truth, tolerance and forbearance. Symbolic Global Education Week‘s opening - goodness day – will be a direction to the society towards what this whole week is about. At the same time the action will be held in Alytus, town hall square, as well.
Every person, who feels like joining this action is invited to the municipality Square in Vilnius and to town hall Square in Alytus at 16:00. While the official color of the event is white, it would be good if a participating person had some white in his appearance (cap, gloves etc.). At the start of the event all participants will be welcome by Lithuanian School Students Union‘s and Students Union‘s members.

· In Vilnius, in Pedagogical University (Central palace. Studentų str. 39, in 602 auditorium, at 12:30) will b an „Open lecture“. Lecturer Rūta Ruolytė (University of Vilnius, department of studies expert, responsible for integration of disabled people ). Topic – different angle: studies in High school and equal possibilities.*³
· In Universities of Lithuania are announcing a project „Wall. Leave a message.“

2 day Assistants’ day. During this day, students from different schools, universities, colleges as well as from different regions of Lithuania (Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Klaipėda) will change places. School Students will become University Students for one day as well as Students will remember their best days at school. It will be a great opportunity for school students to taste the life of a Student. They will participate in lectures, conferences, later will be introduced with the life of a student, will have a chance to visit the students’ home.

· People, who wish to take part, have to make a registration on this e-mail vss@moksleiviai.lt. We wish to have no more than five students from every school. On registration write your name, surname, school, city and age.
· Live library comes to the Alytus, in Jotvingių gymnasium, 14 h.
· In Kaunas, in Vytautas Magnus University (little auditorium, Daukantas str.28 16h) ther will be an „Open lecture“ organized by Lithuanian Student Union. Lecturer Egidijus Aleksandravičius – Professor of University. Topic –individualism. *³
· Universities of Lithuania are announcing a project „Wall. Leave a message.“

3 day. The day of discussions. Informal upbringing – discussion "How I want to be a human in the humanity“. Members of Youth centre "In Corpore" are going to discuss with young people about these things:
- stereotypes and prejudice;
- equal possibilities;
- possibilities of people.
· Live library* will come to Kaunas, to Vytautas Magnus University, the club „Sesija“, Daukantas str .27. 15 h.
· Universities of Lithuania announces a project „Wall. Leave a message.“
· University of Klaipėda is holding to be „Open lecture“. Topic – Organization of Youth expression form. *³

4 day Project „Mirror“. Social provocations’ day. In the Capital of Lithuania, there will be various provocation situations, related to the topic „citizen between citizen“, created. Forum Theatre will be used for this event. Students and school students will provide a mixture of various scenarios where passers-by will be able to join in and the reaction of the passers-by will be reordered on a secret camera. Later these situations will be shown in the Final Concert.

· Live library will come to Rokiškis at 15 h. in Education centre.

5 day Forum theatre. Start at 17:00. Topic – discrimination. During this event viewers will be able to try the role of an actor. Participants: students and society. Place: Lithuanian children and Youth centre, small hall.

All who want to participate are invited to join.
· Live library will come to Vilnius, in LVJC at 15h.

6 day On day 6, participants from Latvia and Estonia come to Lithuania and share their experience about the Global Education Week that was organized in their country. Final concert is going to take place at 17:00, where famous Lithuanian performers will participate. Before the concert there will be an introduction of the films as well as during the concert a slideshow related to the week’s topic “citizen between citizens” will be presented. The evaluation of the week will be presented during the concert.

*The Live-library will be traveling throughout various Lithuanian cities and towns. This Library works in the same way as common libraries. Customers come and borrow books. After reading it, he/she returns it back and if he/she wants they can take more. There is only one difference between a regular and live library – books in Live – library are people and reading means speaking. Live – library gives an opportunity to meet and have a discussion with people about whom different stereotypes are made and who commonly get a lot of discrimination and separation from others. Live – library is free for everyone to come, who wants to face their own stereotypes and preconceived statements about people.

*² During the “Global education week” in Lithuanian’s universities there will be a big board hanged on the first floor of each faculty of university. Every day different social question will be offered to discuss on the board and all the members of academical community will be able to participate in interactive discussion. Examples of social question: “being human between humans”, “relations between students and teacher, lecturer”, “students with disability in my university”.
This social move will last 3 days. Then students will gather up all answers to the social questions, summarize results and will be initiating interactive presentation of it.
Social move will give possibility to research attitude of academical society, to social issues. This social move could be a great step for further social projects in the future.

Famous people of Lithuania, leaders of youth will be the moderators at such humanistic issues as: studies in High school and equal possibilities, individualism, Organization of Youth expression form. In order to pay attention to education of youth, organizators are inviting society to take part in following events which will be organized during all week of global education.

· On November all Lithuania will commemorate Convention on the Rights of the Child. At this occasion a lot of different actions will be organized in Lithuanian’s schools and other institutions:

- seminars;
- trainings;
- weekly events on the topic of rights of the child,

- discussion with children, lessons, quizzes,
- conference and the grand concert on 20^th of November

· Prepare seminar of the project “Mirror” will be organized. During three days fifteen people will be prepared to work practicing methods of forum theatre. At this seminar participants will crystallize the most relevant social issues and afterward participants will prosecute social provocations in different towns. Those social provocations will be filmed and pictured and presented to the society in the cinema theatre. In this project experts working in social range will participate and comment all the actions.
· Project “Di luce in luce” which will take action all month in railway station. The event attracts public attention towards science and scientific research by outlining the unique and unexpected impact that scientific knowledge has on our everyday "artistic" perception of nature, in the field of outdoor light-and-colour phenomena. The approach, never before attempted in any art or science museum, exploits the deep enjoyment of naturalistic-art masterpieces that is experienced when the interest in the observed phenomena is supported by a comprehension of the underlying physical effects. The goal is attained by realizing a spectacular science-and-art, light-show exhibition, proposing (premiere worldwide) an indoor reconstruction of natural atmospheric phenomena. Using underwater landscapes, movable pools, light-scattering solutions, white projectors, lasers, water cascades, glass wires and micro-spheres, various natural events leading to the colour of the sky, the sun, the air, fog, shadows, clouds, summer storms, rainbows etc. are recreated indoors. Each "simulation" aims at a vivid demonstration of a specific, non-trivial, optical phenomenon (such as blue shadows at sunset, or as the dark sky below the rainbow), i.e., those outdoor effects that most people, with the exception of artists, typically overlook.
