GLOBAL EDUCATION WEEK 2007

EVALUATION & PLANNING FEEDBACK FORM

1. Please indicate the major achievement of the GEW 2007 in your country

More schools were informed about GEW and involved in GEW 2007 activities than before. The main activities (debates, seminars, parties, newsletters ) happened in classes.
Many students participated in People to People International NGO “School and Classroom” program and found new pen pal partners in Africa and Asia, registration for this program was before GEW from July till October 2007 (http://www.ptpi.org/programs/SchoolClass.aspx).
Students from five Tallinn’s schools met with Student Ambassadors group where were 45 American teenagers in July http://www.ptpi.org/programs/StudentAmb.aspx) and discussed Global village perspectives.
On October was established People to People Student chapter in Narva.
Two students from high schools participated in Global Youth Forum in Berlin, five students participated in the international project “Youth in Action” in Spain and two in Young Generation meeting in Check Republic “Let do it our way” (http://www.ptpi.org/programs/YoungGeneration.aspx and http://ptpe.org/yg-program2007/ ).
12 students participated in the International visitors program (homestay) in Estonia and abroad (http://ptpe.org/youth/), 60 students participated in the traditional PTP Estonia summer camp in Narva-Joesuu, it was part for preparation to GEW 2007 at schools.

2.Please indicate obstacles for a sound implementation of GEW

GE is not part of curriculum at schools yet and therefore few people know what is GE about. Teachers have not enough capacity and time to organise GEW activities and to give feedback to coordinators.

3.How is the GEW coordinated nationally? Is there any official coordinating structure? Or a Global Education national platform? Which are your main partners at national level? And international level?

GEW is coordinated from national coordinator and People to People Estonia NGO members. The main partners on the national level are schools (teachers and students) and Round Table of Development NGOs (People to People Estonia is one of 11 members of this umbrella organisation).
The main partners on the international level are GEW coordinators in Latvia and Lithuania and other national coordinators from GEW European network.

4.Has any website on Global Education Week activities or resources been developed in your country? If site exists please share its web-address.

Not yet. People to People Estonia NGO members send every year emails to schools with information about GEW
through PTP webpage http://www.ptpi.org/programs/SchoolClass.aspx
with invitation to join “School and Classroom” program

and through GEW webpage http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/nscentre/GE/GEW/GEW2007_en.asp
to find information about GEW in Europe.

5.Please report on networking and/or coordination strategies developed during the GEW (institutional level / local authorities / educational & youth structures / civil society / media)

GEW becomes more and more a part of development education in Estonia organised by many different actors – Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Round Table of Development NGOs (AKÜ), schools, media, etc.

6.After the week, any comments on the theme choice for GEW 2007 (relevance, adaptability, changes made to theme at national level, usefulness for activities with different age ranges, sectors, etc.)

The theme for GEW 2007 “6 billion – ONE humanity!” was fine for teachers and students to organise discussions and other activities at schools.

7.Please report, if possible, relevant quantitative results concerning the GEW in your country (i.e. number of schools - classes, pupils, teachers involved; youth organisations or groups, young people or youth workers/leaders; conferences; training events; news features; materials produced, related figures and dissemination, etc.)

It is very hard to report about quantitative results because there are only few emails with feedbacks from schools.

8.Please report relevant qualitative information concerning the impact of the GEW in your country (i.e. type of strategies, methods, projects; reactions and suggestions by teachers, pupils, youth organisations; local communities; educational authorities, Ministry of Education; opportunities for co-operation among NGOs, teachers etc.)

The qualitative results show that GEW became more popular in Estonia, the reaction from official institutions, NGOs and schools are positive. The “World Day” event organised by Round Table of Development NGOs in the Tamsaare park in Tallinn on September allowing people to get acquainted with many different organisations involved in the development activities, prooves the GEW positive impact over the community.

9.For Global Education Week 2007,

ˇ Is there a theme-choosing process at national level; if so, can you describe it for the benefit of other countries that do not have such a process?

There is a theme-choosing process during traditional People to People Estonia summer camp (60 teenagers and about 10 teachers from different schools and towns participate in the discussions).

ˇ Are there any themes already emerging for the week at national level – if so, which themes?

Students and teachers are interested to discuss intercultural education, to speak about national minorities and migrants in Europe.

Are there any existing or planned educational materials that you would like to share with the network?

Not available at the moment.

Give concrete examples on how the North-South Center has been useful in facilitating the Global Education Week in your country;

The North-South Center web-page and newsletters were very useful for coordinators and school.

Please indicate how North-South Centre could improve its actions in supporting your work in GEW in your country and at the European level.

North-South Centre seminars for national coordinators and web-page are fine.

Please do suggest ideas for improving the GEW preparatory process; the GEW web-page and the Global Education Newsletter

Maybe, it will be good to have market space for national coordinators during the seminar to tell more about GEW activities.

Thank you for your co-operation!
