A Curriculum Framework for Romani :
International Seminar organised by the Language Policy Division
Strasbourg, 31 May – 1 June 2007
Development of the Curriculum Framework for Romani
The Curriculum Framework for Romani (CFR) was developed in co-operation with the European Roma and Travellers Forum (English and Romani versions: see previous section).
The CFR was drafted by David Little and Barbara Lazenby Simpson (Trinity College, Dublin), in co-operation with Miranda Vuolasranta (Finland), Mihaela Zatreanu (Romania), Angelina Dimiter-Taikon (Sweden), Liliana Kovatcheva (Bulgaria), Ulli Pawlata (Austria), Helena Sadilkova (Czech Republic).
Overview of the Seminar
The objectives of the seminar were to present the CFR to participants from 11 member States and to plan a piloting phase in view of a larger seminar (in 2008) addressed to all concerned member states and a wide dissemination. Participants were representatives of national authorities with responsibilities for the Roma curriculum as well as teachers and teacher trainers for Romani, and curriculum developers were also participating.
Participants gave an introduction on the situation of the Romani population and the teaching / learning situation of Romani in their countries. Through small working groups the participants got acquainted with the CFR and could concretely experiment some sections. They indicated their willingness to pilot this document and to report on their experience in view of the next seminar.
A journalist representing the Romani Magazine Le Romané Nevimata" (Stockholm) took part in the seminar to report on the introduction of this new tool. His article is available online in Romani.
