2009: New label for cultural events

The label "Council of Europe Cultural Event" recognises exceptional and innovative cultural and artistic projects which address key challenges of today’s European societies and convey strong messages related to the Council of Europe’s mission and values.

The following projects have been awarded the Council of Europe "Cultural Event" label in 2009:

The International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation for their project "The Green Voices"

Brings together artists from diverse cultures and disciplines for artistic seminars throughout 2009. The artists can explore together different artistic languages as possible means of communication between man and his natural environment. These common reflections focus on the best way of artistically expressing a connection with nature and how therefore to become an ambassador of the Green spirit. Green Voices is part of a three-year programme: Sharing All Voices, bringing together artists each year as ambassadors of European cultures.

First Contemporary Art Biennial of Sarajevo, "Ark Underground" (from November 2009 to November 2010)

The Biennale will be organised in small Bosnian town, in a former military shelter of President Tito. Contemporary art works will be realised in situ by artists from the region and abroad. These artworks will provoke the public into questioning and rediscovering their cultural identity and inspiring insight into their recent history. The Biennale will be organised jointly with institutions and experts from both entities helping civil society to accept their differences. (http://www.bijenale.ba/)

Tbilisi International Theatre Festival (27 September – 19 October 2009)

A new generation of theatre professionals has succeeded in bringing together a high level of theatre performances, from classical to modern drama, about tolerance, human rights and diversity. The organising team has initiated active collaboration with theatre companies in its neighbouring countries, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and expanded this collaboration to many others in Europe and Asia. The festival is multilingual and proposes seminars and training for young audiences. align="left" style="margin-right: 5px; margin-top:0">
