2008: New label for cultural events
The label "Council of Europe Cultural Event" has been awarded for the first time to cultural projects which through their artistic and cultural work convey strong messages about the Council of Europe’s work and critical issues of the European societies.
The new label "Cultural Event" of the Council of Europe has been given to following four projects:
Living Together – Intercultural dialogue in South East
Europe, a British Council project. The label concerns a lens-based photo exhibition on issues like ethnic conflict, migration, religious tolerance which will tour in several countries in Europe in 2008/9 and a web photography competition for young people on similar issues to be organised in July/August 2008.
CREOLE
NRW is a nation-wide competition organised in Germany to select the best music bands specialised in world music. The finalists of the Creole music award will be presented in Dortmund on 3-5 September 2008 during the congress on intercultural work in cities which is linked to the Council of Europe project "Intercultural Cities". This music competition awards local music groups which mix with world music. Two main prices have been given to SeidenStrasse - Asian Freestyle An expressive mixture between Chinese traditional music and classical Western percussion sound; East Affair – Cymbal Mjeschanka - The group convinced the jury by its professionalism, virtuosity and dynamic and interaction.
Apeldoorn
Triennale – Different events, exhibitions, conferences, a summer university, will be organised from 11 June – 28 September 2008 in Apeldoorn (Netherlands) on cultural landscape and town planning, heritage development, etc. The project is linked to the Council of Europe "Landscape Convention".

Film
directors, artists and writers for Human Rights - On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration renowned filmmakers and artists will portray 20 stories on themes related to HR: dignity + justice, gender and participation, environment which will be mounted in a long movie. A book will accompany the film to be shown in cinemas and at TV and public spaces in Europe. This label will be awarded annually to a small number of exceptional and innovative cultural projects organised in Europe which convey a strong message relevant to the Council of Europe’s work and critical issues of European societies.
