A consultation meeting was held on 1-2 June 2016 in Erzurum for the analysis of the situation in the field of judicial ethics in Turkey and for exchanging ideas regarding the code of judicial ethics to be developed under the European Union – Council of Europe project on “Strengthening Judicial Ethics in Turkey”.
Eighty judge prosecutors from the regions of Erzurum, Antalya and Trabzon and four lawyers from Erzurum gathered to provide their inputs in terms of needs, expectations, ideas and priorities in relation to the preparation, content and implementation of ethical norms for the Turkish judiciary.
The current situation in Turkey and international examples were analyzed and presented to the participants. by relevant experts. In the During the two days’ meeting, participants discussed and provided valuable inputs on ethical values and their implementation in Turkey.
The meeting is part of a larger consultation exercise which will involve also lawyers, civil society, media and academia to ensure that all relevant professions and sectors of society can contribute with their views and ideas to this important project.
