Effective Communication on Migration and European Convention on Human Rights

ROUNDTABLE
Organised by the Council of Europe Division on Migration and Refugees and the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions
18 September 2026
Strasbourg and online
Building upon the first Roundtable on fact-based communication of migration (see Roundtable summary report) which was organised in November 2025, DMR and ENNHRI organise a roundtable on 18 September 2026 which will focus on ensuring effective communication on migration and the European Convention on Human Rights. The roundtable aims to serve as a forum for reflecting and discussing constructively about:
- major challenges faced by the Court (and the wider ECHR system) in this context;
- development and impact so far of communication strategies and tools developed by the Court
- vital roles which are or may be played by NHRIs, CSOs and mainstream and social media
- ways to communicate the positive impact of the Court on people's everyday lives and on national law and practice, while effectively countering misinformation and disinformation
The Roundtable will bring together, as panellists and audience, representatives of the Registry of the Court and of the Council of Europe, human rights lawyers, NHRIs, CSOs, journalists covering human rights (law) issues, and policy-makers.
