Co-operation with United Nations bodies, particularly UNHCR, has played a vital role in promoting the Council of Europe’s human rights standards within the broader asylum and migration framework. This collaboration continues to be instrumental in standard-setting, monitoring, and capacity-building activities. Engagement is further reinforced through the Global Compact on Refugees. In 2020 and 2023 the Council of Europe has made “pledges” which advance the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees in the following areas: statelessness, health, inter-cultural inclusion, and gender equality and protection.
