On 30 October, the Council of Europe Division on Migration and Refugees (DMR) organised the 24th meeting of the inter-secretariat Coordination Group on Migration (CGM), focusing on the Council of Europe’s action on the reception, protection and integration of displaced people from Ukraine. It was a timely occasion to take stock of the aboundant work done by various Council of Europe entities, and identify points of more common action in the future.
Participants exchanged views and experiences from the implementation of Council of Europe projects and actions aiming to protect the rights of the war-displaced people within and outside Ukraine, with particular focus on groups in situations of vulnerability, such as children and women. The CGM also had the opportunity to hear from IOM about its action in this domain, and the Council of Europe Kiyv Office regarding the support provided to young people from Ukraine.
The DMR informed about the three missions it carried out in 2026 to Poland, Czechia and Germany focusing on Ukrainians’ temporary protection in Europe, their social integration and possible transition to other secure immigration statuses or their voluntary repatriation in the future, and the DMR’s latest thematic paper entitled: “Temporary protection and beyond: a human rights assessment of current and future European policies for displaced people from Ukraine”.
