Committee of Ministers welcomes work of the Network of Focal Points on Migration

On 15 May, in its decisions taken during the Ministerial Session in Chișinău, the Committee of Ministers welcomed the work of the Council of Europe Network of Focal Points on Migration, managed by the Division on Migration and Refugees (DMR), recognising its role in facilitating exchanges of information, experience and good practices among member states on migration and human rights challenges. The recognition reflects the growing importance of practical co-operation and dialogue among member states in addressing complex migration and asylum-related issues in line with human rights standards.

The Committee of Ministers has also called for further consolidating and strenthening the Council of Europe’s work on migration, including reflection on the future mandate and development of the Network. This opens new opportunities to reinforce the Network of Focal Points on Migration as an important platform for co-operation, peer exchange and targeted support to member states in the areas of migration and asylum, and to further help member states in the development of  laws, policies and practices  in line with the Council of Europe standards, including the European Convention on Human Rights.
