Back Bayerischer Wald National Park

Bayerischer Wald National Park

Here in the heart of Europe wild nature has found a home again. State and linguistic boundaries between Germany and Czech Republic run along its main ridge, which separates the catchment areas of the Danube and Elbe.

The national park is shaped by forests, peatlands, water courses and secondary grasslands which in accordance to the motto “Let nature be nature” have been allowed to develop freely and uninfluenced for more than five decades, and which highlight the impermanence, creativity and originality of nature again and again in new and surprising ways. Part of this is that deadwood or uprooted trees by storms remain in their natural environment creating the base for a considerable variety of rare and endangered species of funghi and insects.

In the past, wild, unspoilt nature inspired writers, composers and artists working with glass; while today it offers people seeking relaxation a rich and exciting experience of nature.
