A roundtable meeting on the situation of smuggling of migrants in Turkey was held online on 8 June 2021, under the project “Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Migrants and Victims of Human Trafficking in Turkey”.
In addition to national and international experts, representatives of the Directorate General of Security, General Command of Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Command of Turkey, as well as the project team attended to the roundtable meeting.
The meeting aimed to support the drafting of the needs assessment report, by receiving valuable experiences and opinions of law enforcement agencies on smuggling of migrants in Turkey and exploring how mentioned partners might better benefit from the project. The needs assessment report is expected to be completed by August 2021.
This meeting was organised within the framework of the Action “Strengthening the human rights protection of migrants and victims of human trafficking in Turkey”, part of the European Union/Council of Europe collaboration “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
