Third Steering Committee Meeting under the Civil Monitoring Boards (CMBs) Project in Turkey

The third Steering Committee (SC) meeting of the Project “Enhancing the Effectiveness of the CMBs in line with the European Standards” took place online on 30 September 2020.

The meeting brought together 28 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Justice’s Directorate General for Prisons and Detention Houses, representatives of CMBs, academia, NGO, enforcement judge, public prosecutor, the Ministry of Justice’s Directorate General for Foreign and EU Affairs, Embassy of Switzerland and Embassy of Sweden in Ankara, as well as the Council of Europe.

The results achieved over the last 6-month period (April-September 2020) were presented, along with the immediate measures undertaken to address the challenges caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, which was praised by the beneficiaries and the donors. The project team expressed its gratitude to all involved stakeholders, without whose dedication and commitment the activities under the mitigation plan could not have been implemented and progress achieved.

The SC members engaged in fruitful discussion on the attained results and the upcoming activities and emphasized their readiness to actively participate in the upcoming round tables. As a result, they adopted the work plan for the upcoming period (October 2020 – March 2021).

The Project “Enhancing the Effectiveness of the Civil Monitoring Boards in Turkey in line with the European Standards” is funded by Sweden, Switzerland, the Republic of Turkey, the Human Rights Trust Fund and Canada.
