Steering Committee meeting on the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019

On 28 May the Steering Committee meeting on the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019 took place in Tbilisi.

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Davit Zalkaliani, Director of the Council of Europe Office of the Directorate General of Programmes, Verena Taylor and the Chairperson of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Eka Beselia addressed the participants in introduction. The speakers emphasized the importance of the Action Plan as a solid framework for the Council of Europe cooperation activities in Georgia.

Representatives of the partner agencies and institutions of Georgia took stock of the progress of the Action Plan and discussed current priorities, endorsing the outlook of upcoming activities.

The Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019 includes activities in the fields of human rights, reform of judiciary, elections, local governance, combatting corruption and other threats to the rule of law, and confidence building measures across dividing lines.
