The results and achievements of the co-funded Council of Europe/EU project “Promoting equality and non-discrimination in Armenia” were presented during the fourth Steering Committee meeting of the project.
During the reporting period, the project continued its co-operation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, Human Rights Defender’s Office, Ministry of Justice, and Prosecutor General’s Office and also expanded its network by meeting with new stakeholders, such as CSOs advocating for the protection of the rights of vulnerable groups and state institutions (Investigative Committee, Division for Ethnic Minorities and Religious Rights under the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia).
From March 2025 to May 2026 the project increased knowledge and skills on better protection from discrimination of more than 650 professionals - police, prosecutors, investigators, civil society, vulnerable communities, academics, youth, media, and public institutions. Through 19 activities and events, activities raised the public awareness and understanding on issues such as tolerance, respect, diversity. Further, the project contributed to the improvement of institutional practices to combating discrimination, hate-motivated crimes, at the same time promoting a victim-centred, human rights-based approach, based on European standards. A TEDx salon talk organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice ensured a large scale and innovative outreach, fostering diversity and tolerance in the Armenian society.
All members of the Steering Committee encouraged further proactive implementation of designed activities and expressed their hope and confidence that the project results will continue advance Armenia’s reform agenda in line with the European standards in the field of equality.
The event is organised in the framework of the project “Promoting equality and non-discrimination in Armenia”, part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme Partnership for Good Governance, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
