Fostering equality in Armenia: an exchange between youth and the Council of Europe

Continuing in the spirit of mutual exchange with youth, a meeting hosted by the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan welcomed 16 Armenian Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) and students of the local French University.

The meeting was organised as a follow up of the regional Council of Europe  initiatives with the European Union’s YEAs, to strengthen youth engagement in promoting equality, diversity and human rights across Europe. During the meeting, Youth learned about the activities implemented by the Council of Europe in Armenia and shared thoughts and exchanged on priorities in the field of rule of law, democracy and human rights.

The gathering also offered a platform for a discussion on further youth initiatives and cooperation, especially relating to promotion of non-discrimination and equality in Armenia. It served also the purpose for Youth to understand how the Council of Europe works across the country through its cooperation projects, with an eye to contribute to life of citizens.

At the end, participants agreed to follow up on the ideas heard and exercise a proactive approach through inclusion of young people into upcoming activities relating to tolerance, diversity and creation of counter narratives to hate speech.

The event is organised in the framework of the project “Promoting equality and non-discrimination in Armenia”, part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme Partnership for Good Governance, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
