New Legislation for Bratislava

The governing legislation on the Capital City of Bratislava, Slovakia, is no different than that governing the smallest municipalities in the country. This poses challenges for the proper functioning of the Capital City, in accordance with principles of good governance. To overcome this challenge and ensure better development of Bratislava, a new regulatory framework should be considered to reflect the city’s specific needs, both from the perspective of a country capital as well as from the perspective of a metropolitan area.

A first round of discussions on these issues will be held between the Council of Europe and national experts, representatives of the local authorities in Bratislava and other national stakeholders. The debate will ensure the relevance of the proposed solutions in an upcoming Policy Advice with recommendations for strengthening the status of Bratislava, to be prepared by the Centre of Expertise for Good Governance, in line with the Council of Europe standards.

The activity is organised by the Centre of Expertise, in cooperation with the Slovak implementing partner “MESA10”, in the framework of the Council of Europe – European Union joint project "Delivering Good Governance in Slovakia - II phase".
