Training Albanian journalists on building quality and trust in news

A training seminar organised with support of the joint European Union and Council of Europe Action "Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Albania (JUFREX), under Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II, and in collaboration with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Albanian Media Council (AMC), supported the capacities of 10 journalists, part of a mentorship programme, on constructive journalism and how to build trust in audiences while maintaining quality of reporting.

Experienced journalists from Swedish Radio and TV shared their experience and best practices and answered questions by Albanian journalists. The training featured a special guest, Anders Holmberg, a well-known and much followed Swedish TV personality, who is the anchor of Swedish TV program “30 minutes”, an in-depth interview program with persons in power. He shared his long interviewer experience and tips on how to interview important personalities. Participants discussed on concrete examples from their own experience that prompted a lively and beneficial conversation.

As a follow up, journalists will prepare news items that will follow practices of constructive journalism while obtaining feedback and support from their mentors.

This activity was supported by a grant of the action "Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Albania”, part of the joint programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Horizontal Instrument for the Western Balkans and Turkey II".
