Teachers train on the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture

220 teachers from 25 schools of pre-university education were engaged in a series of trainings focusing on the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture of the Council of Europe with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

Participants, including teachers, principals and education professionals, and members of TeacherNet network were introduced to the Council of Europe's competences for democratic culture and how they can be implemented through a whole-school approach to further enhance democratic culture in the school.

The training aims to ensure that the model becomes part of educational decision-making and planning, thus helping educational systems to prepare students as citizens with democratic social values. It provides a model of skills and habits to be acquired by individuals/students in order to be part of a democratic culture and to live peacefully together with others in culturally diverse societies.

Joining the Democratic and Inclusive Schools network established within the Council of Europe project Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania, participants were encouraged to apply the new knowledge and skills for a positive impact in their schools and communities.

The project Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania is implemented by the Council of Europe and financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
