Back A new strategic framework for asset recovery and increased capacities on asset management in Albania

The Council of Europe and the European Union, through the Horizontal Facility Project “Action against Economic Crime in Albania“ (AEC-AL) are supporting the strengthening of inter-institutional cooperation and the effectiveness of asset recovery in Albania.

A working group established on 5-6 November 2018, with representatives of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice, General Prosecution Office, Sections of the Prosecution Office on economic crime, Serious Crimes Prosecution Office, Albanian State Police, Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering, Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets, under the leadership of the project’s experts contributed in the drafting of a comprehensive strategy and Action Plan pertaining to Asset Recovery and Asset Management.

Participants identified the key objectives of the strategic framework, the baseline indicators to measure effectiveness, the institutional framework needed to implement the strategy, as well as accompanying Action Plan. This event is a follow up to two previous workshops organised by the project to enhance the strategic framework on asset recovery and enhance the asset management capacities in Albania.

The strengthening of inter-institutional cooperation and the effectiveness of asset recovery in Albania are expected to step up the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.
