New version of the Global Education Guidelines

The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe is proud to announce the launching of the new version of the Global Education Guidelines. This version results from a consultation process among the North-South Centre Global Education network coordinators and among other users of the Global Education Guidelines (GEG) which has been serving as the pedagogical reference framework of the North-South Centre's residential training courses and eLearning scheme.

Recognizing the need to revise the GEG in the light of contemporary challenges and on recent elements of tension at social, economic, political, cultural and environmental level, the pedagogical elements of the new GEG valorise intercultural understanding and practice, conflict prevention and democratic culture.

The new GEG introduces methodological approaches to support GE measurement and monitoring. The structure of the document has been designed to reinforce its practical use and enable formal and non-formal educators to tackle different aspects of GE in a training/learning context and its evaluation.

The writing of this new version of the GEG involved three experts under the coordination of the North-South Centre : an expert on peace and human rights education, member of the first drafting team of the GEG; an expert of the Council of Europe Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture; and a trainer in North-South Centre's Global Education &Youth residential trainings with a long-standing practice of the GEG.

The project has been developed in the framework of the Joint Programme between the European Union and the Council of Europe, iLegend[1]. It is in line with the Council of Europe Reference Framework for Competences for Democratic Culture and with the Sustainable Development Goals monitoring process. It builds on the experience of peer organisations in the field, which have been invited as critical reviewers of its first draft.

The new version of the Global Education Guidelines-concepts and methodologies on global education for educators and policy makers, is available online on the North-South Centre website and on paper version. It has been translated in French and Spanish (both translations will soon be available). It will serve as a reference pedagogical resource for the North-South Centre's residential and on-line courses which shall be complemented by a Massive Open Online Course.
